“When students have home environments that are not giving them the support or what they need to necessarily succeed in an educational environment or just give them that internal motivation to want to be better and to improve the person that’s there for them, and that can make the most impact on them, I truly believe, is their teacher.

The teacher is with them for the majority of the day. They’re considered role models, and they’re there to give them those tools that they need to succeed in life.

So I think that when you have someone who you know will create a safe space for you and an opportunity for you to grow and be as good as you possibly can be. There’s nothing more powerful than having that person who is there with you the entire time telling you that you can do whatever you want to be able to do.

I think that every single child, no matter where they are, no matter their context, their demographic, their socioeconomic status. Every single child deserves that person that’s going to help them be their best and that’s their teachers.”
